Start your first cleanup
Quick start
- Open Pruune and complete the introduction.
- Allow photo-library access when the system asks.
- Review the first photo or video.
- Swipe right to keep it, left to mark it for deletion, or up to compress it when compression is available.
- Use Undo if the last decision was accidental.
- Tap Done whenever you want to finish the current pass. Pruune also moves to review after the last item in the pass.
- Review the items marked for deletion and compression.
- Confirm the final action.
- Check the recap for session results, all-time progress, and a suggested next cleanup.
The default pass contains up to 50 items. You can change the pass size in Menu → Settings → Review Size.
How a cleanup session works
1. Pruune builds a review stack
Pruune reads the photo and video assets available through the device photo-library permission. The stack can come from:
- All available photos and videos
- A media type
- A particular day or month
- “On This Day” memories
- A photo album
- A Smart Pack
The selected Review Size limits the number of items in the current pass. Available sizes are 25, 50, 100, and 250; the default is 50.
2. You make one decision per item
Each swipe or action-button tap records a temporary decision for the current pass:
- Keep leaves the item unchanged.
- Delete marks the item for deletion later.
- Compress queues an eligible item for compression later.
Swiping does not immediately delete or compress the asset.
3. You finish the pass
Tap Done at any point to finish with the items already reviewed. Reaching the final item also finishes the pass automatically.
If nothing was marked for deletion or compression, Pruune can move directly to the recap. Otherwise, it opens the Review screen unless the applicable review-skip setting is enabled.
4. You review the pending changes
The Review screen separates deletion choices from compression choices. Deletion selections can be restored individually before confirmation.
5. Pruune asks the system to apply the changes
Confirmed deletion uses the device photo-library deletion API. Confirmed compression creates a smaller replacement in the photo library and removes the original.
When deletion and compression are confirmed together, Pruune batches the affected original asset IDs so the operating system can handle them together where possible.
6. Pruune shows a recap
The recap can include:
- Number of items deleted
- Storage attributed to deletion
- Number of items compressed
- Estimated compression savings
- Number of items kept
- All-time deleted-item and storage totals
- Session count
- Current cleanup streak
- A recommended next Smart Pack
- A Share Stats action when the session deleted or compressed something
Shared stats are text sent through the device’s system share sheet. Pruune does not attach the reviewed photos to that share.
The recap’s all-time storage figure currently comes from deletion progress. Successful compression has its own stored totals, but compression savings are not added to the badge-based all-time storage figure shown in the recap. The session counter begins when Pruune starts a swipe session, rather than only after a deletion succeeds.
